Training

We organise training workshops throughout the year, with a break during the ‘busy’ season i.e. spring and summer. A good place to start is our Introductory Course, which provides basic knowledge covering most situations.

More advanced or specialised workshops are organised for people who wish to further their skills and/or specialise in a particular group of animals.

We regularly invite trainers from other organisations and/or specialists, such as wildlife vets, in order to ensure that we are up-to-date with the latest knowledge.

We encourage all our members to attend training at least every two years, as information and knowledge about our native wildlife is constantly evolving. To assist our members, we aim to keep training cost as low as possible. This is possible thanks to the trainers and presenters who give their time free of charge, and to a subsidy from the group.

If you’re interested in becoming a wildlife carer, please register your interest for our next introductory training. This workshop introduces the common species of animals that come into care and why. New members will learn basic rescue methods for wallabies and kangaroos, birds, possums, echidnas and reptiles. At the end of the day you will have an understanding of NRWC’s structure and the part we play in the community. You will also know which of the varied and interesting roles is right for you!
